Michel Mañanes begins his education at the age of six in the Conservatoire de Musique in Fontainebleau, France. The brilliant results (honor roll in all his clases) enables him to participate, at an early age, in the various concerts organized by the Conservatory of that city. Trained by the great Mademoiselle Gisele Lambert, he wins First Prize in various contests on interpretation, such as, the "Lucien Wurmer", the "Leopold Bellan" and the "Artistique" contest.
Barely 14 years old, he becomes pupil to the famous Madam Genevieve Jacques-Dupont, at the "Conservatoire Nationales de Troyes"; finishing his musical education with First Place Honors.
Spain
Mañanes returns to Spain to enter into the Official Conservatory of Santander with Profesor Don Manuel Valcarcel where he wins by contest First Prize in the Seventh Annual "Consurso Provincial Jesus de Monasterio", First Prize at the Eighth Annual "Concurso Manuel Valcarcel" in 1980, and First Prize in the category of Spanish Music "Concurso Manuel Valcarcel" in 1981.
Under a four year scholarship through the "Botin Foundation" of Santander, he enters the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, under the tutelage of pianist Joaquin Soriano. During his stay in Madrid, Michel perfects other musical material including Harmony, Chamber Music, Teaching, Analytical Forms, among others. He graduates his brilliant superior studies with maximum qualifications.
Austria
He receives a full scholarship through the Ministry of External Affairs of Austria, entering the "Hochschule fur Musik" of Vienna with profesors Hans Graf, Carmen Graf-Adnet and Cristina Karjeva. Michel at this point, is under the direct tutelage of Oleg Maisenberg; where he is able to offer excellent recitals in the various concert halls of the city and is a participant in the international interpretation contests. In 1987 he is awarded the Diploma of the Hochschule fur Musik.
Present Day
In 1988, after his magnificent participation in Vienna of the "Neujarhskonzert", he returns to Spain to start intense teaching sessions while offering recitals in various points around the country. A number of his students have started stupendous musical careers; for which Mañanes has acquired the fame of excellent "Maestro".
Always involved and preoccupied with children and teenagers; he creates the "Associacion de Jovenes Musicales de Santander" of which he is President. This last leads him to become a musical critic in the media. In 1997 Michel Mañanes participated in the First Convention of Musical Critics of Spain in Segovia under the invitation of the "Fundacion Juan de Borbon".
His concerts have generated great interest, stupendous reviews and are generally very well accepted by the audience. His latest concerts in Madrid (Auditorio Conde-Duque), in Rome (Spanish Embassy), Nice (Mediterranean University), Varsovia and London were organized by the Cervantes Institute. With extraordinary results, Michel has been praised for his Central European mastery of the art, his subtle imitative sound, and of the "cutting edge" versions of Spanish Classical pieces. The Critics, always enthusiastic, have defined his interpretations as rigorous, elegant, always convincing; worthy of the best interpretative style that in many ways exemplifies his unusual capacity to communicate, to move you without ever losing the purest of fidelities to the musical styles.
Currently living in Santander, Spain, Michel regularly plays with the Freiburg Chamber Orchestra. He teaches music and works as a music critic, as well as maintaining his works as a dedicated concert pianist.

Biografía
Michel Mañanes empieza a tocar el piano a la edad de seis años en el Conservatorio de Música de Fontainebleau, Francia. Sus brillantes resultados (Mención de Honor en todos los cursos) le llevan a actuar, desde muy joven, en diversos conciertos organizados por el Conservatorio de la ciudad. Dirigida por una gran profesora de piano, Mademoiselle Gisele Lambert, gana varios premios de interpretacion en diferentes concursos de jóvenes en París ( Primer Premio Piano "Lucien Wurmer", el Primer Premio Piano "Leopold Bellan" y el concurso "Artistique").Con apenas catorce años de edad, ingresa en la clase de una de las profesoras mas afamadas de Francia, Madame Genevieve Jacques-Dupont, en el Conservatorio Nacional de Troyes (sucursal del Conservatorio de París); terminando sus estudios de piano con el Primer Prix fin de curso.
De regreso a España Mañanes entra en la clase del profesor Don Manuel Valcarcel en el Conservatorio oficial de Santander y se le otorga por concurso el Primer Premio curso de Séptimo de piano "Concurso Provincial Jesús de Monasterio", el Primer Premio curso Octavo de piano "Concurso Manuel Valcárcel" y Primer Premio de Música española sección piano "Concurso Manuel Valcárcel". Becado por un periodo de 4 años por la Fundación Botín de Santander, ingresa en la cátedra del pianista y profesor de piano Joaquín Soriano en el Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid. Durante su estancia en Madrid, se perfecciona en otras materias musicales como Armonía, Música de Camara, Pedagogía, Formas Analíticas, Piano acompañamiento, etc. Mañanes termina brillantemente sus estudios superiores de piano con las máximas calificaciones.
Becado por el Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores de Austria, continúa su perfeccionamiento musical en la Hochschule für Musik de Viena con los profesores Hans Graf, Carmen Graf-Adnet y Cristina Karajeva. Michel recibe clases del pianista Oleg Maisenberg. Ofrece varios exitosos recitales en distintas salas de la ciudad y participa en cursos internacionales de interpretación. Obtiene el Diploma de la Hochschule für Musik, especialidad piano y profesor de piano.
Tras participar en el Neujarhskonzert de Viena, con esplendida acogida musical, regresa a España, Santander, e inicia una intensa labor pedagógica sin dejar de ofrecer recitales en distintos puntos del país. Varios alumnos suyos realizan una notable carrera, por lo que Mañanes adquiere una fama de excelente maestro de piano. Preocupado por los jóvenes, crea la Asociación de Juventudes Musicales de Santander de la que es presidente desde su creación, en la que desarolla una fructífera actividad como crítico musical en diversos medios de prensa y radio. Esto último le lleva a participar en el Primer Encuentro de Críticos Musicales de España de 1997 en Segovia invitado por la Fundación Juan de Borbón.
Sus conciertos siempre suscitan un enorme interes, con criticas estupendas y una gran acogida del público. Sus conciertos en Madrid, en Roma (Embajada Española), Niza (Universidad del, Mediterráneo), en Varsovia (Instituto Frederick Chopin) y Londres, organizados por el Instituto Cervantes, han tenido una extraordinaria acogida, con sus comentarios acerca de su maestría centroeuropea y su sutil sonido imitativo, rozando la perfección en las obras de música española.
La crítica, siempre entusiasta, ha definido sus interpretaciones como rigurosas y elegantes, siempre convincentes, dignas del mejor estilo interpretativo, destacando sobremanera su inusual capacidad de comunicar, de conmover sin perder nunca la más pura fidelidad a los estilos musicales
